Youth Care Worker – Part-Time (60%)

Summary

Reports to the Jr. School Principal and provides guidance and support to students.  This position is part of the ESS (Educational Support Services) department and partners with the counselling department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform short-term counselling and crisis intervention for students as needed
  • Provide programming to educate students regarding well-being issues
  • Consult with teachers and explore possible strategies and solutions for the concerns that arise to support students
  • Maintain confidential records of interactions with students
  • Guidance for teachers in identifying students who may require additional support and intervention
  • Lead “STAR” meetings (Students at Risk)
  • Identify areas of concern student relationships and develop strategies to improve the interactions between students
  • Implement restorative justice procedures following discipline incidents
  • Meet regularly with the counselling team and school base team
  • Facilitate communication with parents from the integrated support team to offer consistent and coordinated advice in supporting their children
  • Assist with planning, implementing and monitoring behaviour management programs including observation, record keeping and follow-up.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with youth in educational, counselling, or social service settings is preferred. This could include internships, volunteer work, or paid positions.
  • Certifications such as Certified Child and Youth Care Worker (CCYCW), Certified Youth Care Practitioner (CYCP), or other relevant certifications in counseling or social work preferred.
  • A strong understanding of child and adolescent development, behavior management techniques, trauma-informed care, and relevant laws and regulations (such as child protection laws) is essential.
  • Christian counselling or perspective courses will be an asset

Salary Range:  $28.70 – $31.67 per hour (dependent on education, qualifications, and experience)
