White Rock Christian Academy is seeking candidates for a part-time Education Assistant (EA) position commencing September 2026. Interested candidates must have Wednesday-Friday availability to coordinate a consistently scheduled 1.5 days of work per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Student Support and Instruction
- Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), behavior plans, and care plans as directed by the classroom teacher or ESS Coordinator.
- Work with individual students or small groups to facilitate learning, reinforce concepts, and promote student participation in classroom activities.
- Adapt or modify learning materials, classroom activities, and environments to meet the needs of students with exceptionalities.
- Assist students with executive functioning, organization, note-taking, and study skills.
- Provide differentiated support while fostering student independence, self-advocacy, and confidence.
- Support therapy programs such as occupational therapy, speech and language, or behavioral interventions as directed by specialists.
Behavioral and Emotional Support:
- Model Christ-like behavior, promoting respect, empathy, and self-regulation among students.
- Assist in implementing and monitoring behavior support plans, including collecting data and observing student progress.
- Use trauma-informed and restorative practices to support positive student behavior and resolve conflict constructively.
- Provide emotional reassurance and encouragement to help students manage anxiety, frustration, or sensory challenges.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate closely with teachers, ESS staff, and other professionals to support holistic student development.
- Participate in school-based team meetings and IEP reviews as requested.
- Maintain clear, respectful, and professional communication with staff, students, and parents in accordance with school protocols.
- Maintain accurate records and anecdotal notes to track student progress and inform planning.
- Demonstrate confidentiality and discretion when handling student and family information.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Attend staff meetings, professional learning sessions, and school events as required.
- Participate in ongoing training (e.g., Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, First Aid, POPARD, ABA strategies) to enhance skills and effectiveness.
- Demonstrate professionalism in punctuality, reliability, and conduct.
- Support the broader school community through participation in events and activities that reflect WRCA’s Core Purpose and culture.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, and families.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Patience, flexibility, and adaptability to changing needs and environments.
- Knowledge of strategies for supporting students with learning differences, ASD, ADHD, or behavioral challenges.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and composure under pressure.
- A compassionate, Christ-centered approach to supporting student growth and inclusion.
Other duties as required
Ideal Qualifications:
- EA Certification OR a Completion of a recognized Post-Secondary Special Education Assistant program, or a Degree/Diploma in a related field, and/or extensive experience in an equivalent field
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Excellent skills with mathematics
- Completion of a recognized program in Inclusive Education
- Completion of a certificate/diploma whose primary focus is on empirically supported approaches to supporting children with ASD or an equivalent certification
- One thousand (1,000) hours home team/Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) training and work experience documented by a Professional Consultant
- Experience working with non-verbal students or using AAC system
- Experience supporting students with behaviour challenges and or anxiety.
