Transformational Learning Opportunities

Our mission is to “Inspire and cultivate citizens of Godly Character who transform their world for Christ.” This transformational aspect is at the heart of all these experiences. By engaging outside of the campus, locally and abroad, we invite God to transform students on their spiritual journey, and in turn, God can use that transformation to impact both our own communities and the communities that we visit.

The hope is that students will reflect on how the experiences transformed their hearts, their faith, and their future: Transformational Learning Opportunities (TLO).

Mazatlán TLO 2026

In March 2026, a team of 12 students and 3 staff travelled to Mazatlán, Mexico to partner with YWAM through their Homes of Hope ministry. During the trip, students worked together to help build a home for a young couple, offering practical support while learning firsthand what it means to serve others with compassion and purpose.

The smaller group size created a unique and meaningful experience for everyone involved. Students formed close bonds with one another, connected across grade levels, and had increased opportunities for shared reflection and meaningful conversations. Staff were also able to spend more intentional time with students, strengthening relationships and providing guidance throughout the trip.

Alongside the construction work, students developed new hands‑on skills and were challenged to step outside their comfort zones. The experience emphasized servant leadership, perseverance, and faith lived out in action. Through working side by side, the group grew not only in confidence and capability, but also in unity and understanding.

The March 2026 Mazatlán missions trip was a powerful example of how service, faith, and community come together to create lasting impact — both for the family receiving a home and for the students who participated.

Service Week Report: March 2026

“…seeing the next generation serve with such integrity reassured her that the world is in good hands.”

March 2026 was a meaningful and inspiring time for White Rock Christian Academy’s Grade 10–12 students as they participated in TLO Service Week, a week dedicated to service, reflection, and living out our school’s core purpose.

Throughout the week, students served in a variety of community placements, offering their time, energy, and compassion to organizations and individuals in need.

During a wrap‑up gathering at the conclusion of the week, many students shared reflections on their experiences — highlighting memorable moments, unexpected lessons, meaningful relationships, and ways they felt God affirming their gifts and calling. These reflections revealed just how deeply the week had shaped and challenged them.

Despite the natural pull of Spring Break approaching, students demonstrated remarkable flexibility and commitment by showing up each day ready to serve. Their impact was evident not only in the work they completed, but in the care, respect, and enthusiasm they brought to every placement. The school community is incredibly proud of the way students represented White Rock Christian Academy and lived out Christ‑like service.

March 2026 was a meaningful and inspiring time for White Rock Christian Academy’s Grade 10–12 students as they participated in TLO Service Week, a week dedicated to service, reflection, and living out our school’s core purpose.

One story from the week beautifully captured the heart of TLO Service Week. After observing the way students served, a community member expressed deep gratitude and hope for the future, sharing that seeing the next generation serve with such integrity reassured her that the world is in good hands. Moments like this affirmed that students were doing far more than completing service hours — they were embodying our mission.

At White Rock Christian Academy, our core purpose is to inspire and cultivate citizens of Godly character who transform their world for Christ. During TLO Service Week in March 2026, this purpose was vividly on display. Through kindness, diligence, humility, and care for others, students truly demonstrated what it means to serve as Christ did.

The week would not have been possible without the support and dedication of many individuals. Sincere thanks go to the teachers who accompanied students, adapted schedules, and supported placements throughout the week. Their flexibility and commitment played a key role in making the experience successful.

A special time of worship and reflection brought the week to a meaningful close. Gratitude is extended to Peace Portal Church for generously opening their sanctuary and leading worship for the school community. The gathering provided a powerful opportunity to give thanks for the experiences of the week and reflect together on God’s work.

The school community is also thankful to BB Food On The Go, with special appreciation to Brian, for celebrating students and staff by providing delicious crepes — a joyful and memorable treat at the end of the week.

Special recognition goes to Mrs. Vanderliek, whose countless hours of planning and coordination made TLO Service Week possible. From connecting with community organizations and arranging placements to organizing parent drivers and managing behind‑the‑scenes logistics, her dedication was instrumental in the success of the week.

Finally, heartfelt thanks are extended to Mr. Burge, Bible teacher at WRCA, for his leadership in preparing students spiritually for the week. His lessons leading up to TLO Service Week, including the TLO Marketplace and the When Helping Hurts series, helped students approach service thoughtfully and biblically, grounded in Scripture and the example of Jesus.

As we reflect on TLO Service Week in March 2026, it is our prayer that this experience marks only the beginning — and that WRCA students will continue to transform their world for Christ in the years ahead.

Our Service Program

Our service program encourages a servant heart in God’s world through local and global mission projects.

The framework is divided into four phases:  K-G2; G3-G5; G6-G10; G11-G12.  The framework is also based on Westerhoff’s four stages in faith development: experienced faith, belonging faith, searching faith, and owned faith.  It is also based on Lawrence Kohlberg’s stages of moral reasoning.  From their research we plan for Mission and Service Learning using four contexts: Seeing God’s world, caring for God’s world, knowing God’s world, and going into God’s world.
