Health and Safety

Medical Attention:
Students feeling unwell should inform their teacher. Staff will contact parents if the student needs to go home or to a medical facility. First-aid responders handle emergencies, and no medication (e.g., Tylenol) is given without parental consent.

Nut-Free School:
White Rock Christian Academy is nut-free. Products containing peanuts or tree nuts are prohibited, including snacks and event treats, to ensure student safety.

Allergies:
Parents must inform the school of any allergy updates, and student allergy information is kept on file.

Communicable Diseases:
WRCA prioritizes safety and follows communicable disease prevention measures, including hygiene practices, cleaning protocols, and health awareness.

  • Staff, students, and visitors must monitor their health and stay home if unwell.
  • A designated space is available for sick individuals until they can leave school.
  • Masks are provided for those with respiratory symptoms.

Personal Hygiene Practices:
Students and staff are encouraged to wash hands frequently and practice respiratory etiquette (e.g., coughing into elbows, discarding tissues).

Curriculum and Activities:
All activities align with provincial health guidelines. Shared equipment is cleaned between uses, and hand hygiene is encouraged. School trips follow safety protocols, including cleaning buses and adhering to public health orders.

Cleaning and Ventilation:
Integral Services Group handles janitorial needs. Cleaning focuses on removing dirt, while disinfection kills bacteria and viruses. Frequently touched surfaces are cleaned daily, and ventilation systems are maintained for optimal air circulation.

From Fraser Health Authority:

Out of an abundance of caution, Fraser Health has sent public and independent schools in the region a letter about the teenager who has tested presumptively positive for avian influenza. Please see the letter attached for more information. We encourage everyone to practice the preventative measures suggested, including:

  • Stay up to date on all immunizations, especially the seasonal flu vaccine
  • Do not touch sick or dead animals
  • Stay home if you are sick

July 2024: Dealing with COVID-19

People with symptoms who test positive for COVID-19 should stay home until their fever has resolved and they feel well enough to participate in daily activities.

We want to encourage parents to have their children tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing symptoms.
