Special Educational Assistant
06.07.24White Rock Christian Academy is seeking candidates for a Special Educational Assistant (SEA) position for the 2024-2025 school year.
As a SEA, you will:
- Advocate for students’ needs, maintaining confidentiality and professional communication.
- Facilitate student participation in classroom activities, collaborating with teachers, counselors, ESS dept., and other support personnel.
- Provide individualized or small group support in the least intrusive environment to enhance students’ emotional, intellectual, and social development.
- Participate in school-based team meetings and adapt situations, environments, materials, and activities for student success.
- Implement planned strategies, activities, and behavior support plans, consulting with classroom teachers and ESS Coordinator for feedback.
- Document student progress with anecdotal records and work samples. Evaluate and maintain records of student progress as per their IEPs
- Support students with note-taking, test writing, auditory processing, executive functioning, and other aids to ensure their success. Implement educational programs to improve reading, math, and writing skills.
- Create visual supports for units and organization, and support AAC communication, assignment, and test organization.
- Communicate student progress, motivation, and homework expectations to families, participate in the community, and support teachers and the school as needed.
Ideal Qualifications:
- EA Certification OR a Completion of a recognized Post-Secondary Special Education Assistant program, or a Degree/Diploma in a related field, and/or extensive experience in an equivalent field
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Excellent skills with mathematics
- Completion of a recognized program in special needs assistance
- Completion of a certificate/diploma whose primary focus is on empirically supported approaches to supporting children with ASD or an equivalent certification
- One thousand (1,000) hours home team/Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) training and work experience documented by a Professional Consultant
- Experience working with non-verbal students or using AAC system
- Experience supporting students with behaviour challenges and or anxiety.
