Never before has God provided as excellent an opportunity to expand the mission of our school, and to improve our ability to succeed in that mission.
Studies show that the younger a child comes to know the Lord, the more likely he or she is to remain faithful to Jesus. In fact, surveys have shown that 85% of those who become Christians do so between the ages of four and fourteen. Our mission is to build a facility able to properly house our programs and student body. We are currently challenged in our ability to sustain excellence in all that we seek to do, in terms of the number of children that could be offered a high-quality education in a Christian context. We now face the pressure of containing the growth that has occurred in our student body, at a time when the demand from more families wishing to be part of WRCA has never been greater.
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
In the 35 years since its founding, WRCA has influenced thousands of lives as it provided academic and spiritual education. It has remained committed to the teachings of Christ, and to striving for excellence in education. Now is the time where we need to stretch our faith to reach high, allowing this work to continue, and to allow our students to reach higher than ever before. The plan is to redevelop the site in three phases whereby phase 1 is the critical step on a path to long term program stability and financial security, a path that secures the opportunity for students to pursue Christian education on the peninsula for generations to come.
The current campaign will fund a 47,000 sq ft building over two stories and a 45 stall underground parking level. Phase 1 also includes a new classroom block and facilities for fine arts and music allowing for expansion of these programs and also increasing our school capacity by more than 33%. The total construction cost of Phase 1 is estimated to be $13.8 million. Phases 2 and 3 will include classrooms for grades 6-12, science laboratories, two gymnasiums, an auditorium, additional underground parking and office space for administration and staff.
A project of this scope requires the participation of the entire community. We value the contributions of every member of our extended WRCA family. Early in 2017 we arranged meetings with every family to share more information about the project and to explore the potential for financial participation in the campaign.
We understand not every family can participate in the same way or to the same level and we look forward to engaging in dialogue with you. In this process we are asking families not to make equal gifts but to consider equal sacrifice to help build a legacy for Christian education on the Peninsula for generations to come.
